Blue Mountain Village: Eat, Stay & Play
Living in Ontario, one of our favourite spots for a staycation is Blue Mountain. It is a ski town destination that is great for any -time of year getaway, plus since it’s currently the off-season, you can always find some good discounts. For us, the distance is perfect for a mini-vacation, and we love the pedestrian-only village for all it has to offer. Since we visit here so often, I wanted to put together a list of some of our favourtie spots to eat, stay and play.
Stay
Blue Mountain Village has over 1,000 different accommodation units available to choose from, as well as so many house rentals surrounding the village. Whether you are looking for a hotel-style property or a private home, the Village has something to suit your budget. Choose your stay at Blue Mountain for a ski trip, summer vacation, fall scenery, or much-needed family time.
This past weekend we rented a house at Rivergrass Resort Homes located beside the golf course. Since we were traveling as a family of seven, we wanted to have lots of space with a kitchen, dining, multiple bedrooms, and walking distance of all amenities.
We also love to stay in the heart of the village in the units above the shops and restaurants. This is great because they have many buildings in the village with a wide variety of rooms to choose from as well as indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs. In the past, we have stayed at Seasons, Grand Georgian, Mosaic, and The Lodges at Blue in all beautifully designed suits with stunning views.
Eat
We love all the unique dining options the village has to offer. Whether you are looking to grab something and go back to your room for a meal or to enjoy fine dining, the village has it all.
We recommend Sunset Grill or Espresso Bar Bakery for brunch. Firehall Pizza Co. for delicious pizza as takeaway food. Rusty’s at Blue, Camino Taco, or Kaytoo for lunch on the patio. C & A Steak Company for a memorable experience that will make any occasion special. Copper Blues for dinner on a patio. Magnone’s Italian Kitchen for fancy nighttime dining. Twist Kitchen & Cocktail for sipping martinis. As well as an all-time favourite place to hang out- MJ Byrne’s Irish Pub. You can go to this pub any time of day for a great atmosphere, we have sat on their patio located in the heart of the village, as well as danced the night away to live music with the best, nighttime atmosphere.
Northwinds Brewery: We heard have heard so many great things about the brewery in the village and we finally made it here on this trip to Blue Mountain. We had so much fun getting the full brewery experience. We tried a 14-beer tasting flight and found that they were all so tasty, we had to buy a six-pack to take home with us. We ordered multiple appetizers and enjoyed learning how the craft beer is made. We loved this brewery and will be back on our next visit.
1858 Caesar Bar: The famous Caesar bar in Collingwood, just outside of Blue Mountain is another stop we always make on our way to or from the Village. We go here often because we love Caesars and there is no other restaurant like it. Here you can enjoy build-your-own Caesars as well as, there many specialized Caesar combinations with special garnish that will leave you feeling full before even ordering anything to eat. We love the drinks, food, and atmosphere of the 1858 Caesar bar and can’t wait to attend all the fun events they put on in the summer months with live music.
Play
Blue Mountain area offers hotels, dining, and lovely little shops throughout the village that makes staying here so much fun. The shops range from clothing to toy stores, pottery workshops, home décor shops and even a Christmas Store . The village also has downhill ski and mountain bike equipment and fashion that ensures you look your best on the hills. However, one of our favourtire shops to visit is the Rocky Mountain Chocolate store to enjoy their locally made in-house fudge.
