Throughout the year, we like to plan mini getaways to relax and spend time as a family. Every time we plan a trip, we look for a spot that we can get outside and explore, that a little one would enjoy just as much as adults.
Niagara Falls is a stunning natural attraction that many travelers can’t wait to see. It is a group of large waterfalls that are located on the eastern coast of the United States and Canada, on the Niagara River. We had not visited in years and knew that it was a destination providing great entertainment for all ages.
There are so many ways to do a trip to Niagara Falls. There are various hotels nearby, that is walking distance of all amenities. As well as, Airbnb properties available, in the area, that have a wide range of options for different group sizes traveling together. Another way to go is to book a stay at the Great Wolf Lodge, which is such an exciting place for your kids to enjoy.
We visited Niagara Falls in the winter months to celebrate our little one’s first birthday and here is what we did.
Airbnb
We love traveling and booking Airbnb stays because it allows us to have the freedom of relaxing in a cozy home that hotels just can’t offer. Having a small child that is crawling makes us want to find something that we know is professionally cleaned and safe for this type of stage. We always book something spacious and close to all the entertainment in the area, so we can walk to everything we need. Airbnb is the best way to go, and we love booking beautiful homes for our stays anywhere we travel.
Butterfly Museum
The Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara is home to 2000 butterflies. It is one of the largest glass, enclosed butterfly conservatories in North America and is surrounded by a tropical garden oasis. The indoor butterfly home offers waterfalls and lush vegetation with fluttering butterflies that freely fly all around you. Your self-guided tour begins with an informative video presentation and ends with a walk through a gift shop. This was great for our toddler but also would be lovely for anyone to experience at any age. It is very peaceful, informative and a must-see while in the Niagara area.
Rain Forest Café
Since we were here celebrating a first birthday, the Rain Forest Café was something we wanted to try. It is a great experience when traveling with a child. The interior of the restaurant allows you to feel as if you are in the rainforest. This is part adventure, part restaurant. You get to eat your meal surrounded by aquariums, and large moving animals, as well as experience thunderstorms that rumble the whole forest. It is a must-see and was a fun time for our toddler.
Sky Wheel
Niagara Falls offers visitors a Sky Wheel experience. This ride allows you to see the best views and soars 175 feet above the falls. It gives riders a panoramic view of the natural wonder of the breathtaking waterfalls. Tickets are so affordable and can book ahead of time, online or in person. This is so unique and is one of the largest observation wheels in Canada. The Sky Wheel is a fully enclosed gondola and is in the heart of the Clifton hill strip. This is a must-do for your bucket list while in Niagara Falls, you can’t beat the views.
Clifton Hill
Clifton Hill is a world-famous street filled with entertainment and fun for any age. The adventures are endless and include a wide range of attractions. History buffs can enjoy many historical sites and museums. While thrill-seekers can take a ride on indoor and outdoor midway attractions as well as experience boat tours around the falls. Throughout your stay, you can spend so much time here exploring everything the falls have to offer whether you are traveling with children or adults. Check out Niagara Falls and enjoy all that Clifton Hill has to offer.
Mini Putt
Clifton Hill offers multiple versions of Mini Golf, indoor and outdoors. We loved the outdoor Dinosaur Park Mini Golf. This course was massive and surrounded by gigantic prehistoric dinosaurs and lush vegetation. It is even just a great place to take photos because it is such a site to see. Enjoy the outdoor experience or the multiple other indoor golf adventures that are sure to fascinate all ages.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not
When visiting Niagara experiencing Riley’s Believe It or Not is so amazing, as it is one of the original attractions for amusement seekers. This museum will amaze guests of all ages. Featuring over 900 exhibits, it is highly interactive and can take up to an hour to walk through and see all the astonishing artifacts.
We spent a lot of our time walking around the tourism area because we were traveling with a toddler, but the options are endless in the Niagara Falls region, and I wanted to touch on a couple of the other amenities that Niagara has to offer.
Great Food
Niagara Falls offers a variety of local options for your meals. From elegant falls view dining, the Niagara wine region provides wine bars for romantic getaways, as well as casual pubs and eateries around Clifton Hill to accommodate large groups. This area has so many diverse options and is known for fulfilling all your travel needs paired with great wines and spectacular views.
Casino
The Falls View Casino offers nonstop excitement in the heart of the tourism area. Built on a cliff to capture the view of horseshoe falls, this casino is the largest and most elegant resort facility in Canada. A must-see, even if you are not up for gambling, you can check out how fabulous this place really is.
Great Wolf Lodge
The well-known, Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls offers a wide variety of fun family attractions including a 100,000 square foot water park. Situated close to the falls, the views are amazing, and you can find more than enough entertainment at this resort without even leaving.
